For Keke Wu, Senior Director of People Analytics at Moderna, her role isn't just about crunching numbers; it's about fostering an environment where every employee can thrive. Keke leads a small but mighty team within our People Platform team, serving as the quantitative partner across Human Resources. "We provide insights that help scale our culture and ensure our colleagues can perform at their peak in a sustainable way," Keke explains.
Keke's path to people analytics was not a straight line. She originally planned on a career in investment banking after business school. "I somehow landed in analytics, and looking back, I'm so grateful. It opened a lot of doors for me," she reflects. Her transition to people analytics came after realizing the untapped potential of data in understanding and optimizing human performance.
The pandemic was a turning point for Keke, leading her to join Moderna. "The pandemic made me rethink my career. I was inspired by Moderna's work and saw an opportunity to contribute to such an impactful mission," she recalls.
Using Data to Help Each Employee Thrive
Reflecting on her early career, Keke notes the evolution of HR's relationship with data. "The HR field wasn't always known for being data driven. Now, we're leveraging vast amounts of data to enhance employee performance and well-being,” she says. Her fascination with the complexity of human behavior drives her passion for the field. "Humans are so difficult to predict. There's so much going into what motivates people and how they make decisions."
Keke's role involves working across HR and collaborating with digital teams, combining technology, AI, data science and social sciences to drive business decisions. "We get to think creatively and work cross-functionally to inform decisions," she says, underscoring the interdisciplinary nature of her work.
Her previous belief that advanced analytics required large datasets was challenged at Moderna, where the focus on individual talent is paramount. "Here, we emphasize nurturing each individual to thrive and perform at their peak. It's about seeing each person as more than just a number."

This mindset resonates deeply with her approach to leadership and management. As a manager, Keke strives to be a cheerleader for her team, balancing directness with personal connection. "It's important to know what motivates each individual and to challenge them in a supportive way," she explains. Her goal is to inspire her team to grow and excel, even in a demanding environment.
In Keke's words, being part of Moderna's journey is a privilege. "Even though I'm not a scientist, being in people analytics allows me to feel connected to our mission," she shares. Her role is a testament to the fact that every role at Moderna truly matters, enabling the company to have a positive impact on human health.
