Responsibility
Our company launched the Moderna Charitable Foundation in 2022 to support organisations and causes that promote public health and access to quality healthcare, advancing scientific education and innovation, and advocating for diversity and inclusion, particularly in underserved populations.
Our approach
The Moderna Foundation is an extension of our societal impact. We are passionate about addressing the ongoing needs in communities impacted by COVID-19, including the societal conditions exacerbated by the pandemic along with the inequalities this challenging period has revealed.
Together, we can work toward a long-lasting impact by:
Grant-making to support organisations that align with our mission
Philanthropic giving to provide support during humanitarian crises
Employee matching to enable our people to support causes that matter most to them
Grants
The Moderna Foundation provides grants to support 501(c)(3) organisations, and similarly organised nonprofit organisations outside the U.S., for the benefit of our local and global communities.
Our partners
Moderna Charitable Foundation has announced grants to local and global nonprofit organisations working to address areas of need.
International Rescue Committee
We are partnering with International Rescue Committee to support infection prevention and control programs for improved and resilient health systems in West and Central Africa, particularly in countries that have been impacted by conflict.
Year Up
We are partnering with Year Up to support a workforce development program that closes the opportunity divide between young adults and companies across the U.S.
Amref Health Africa
We are partnering with Amref Health Africa to support efforts to improve COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Kenya, with a focus on vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities in counties most impacted by the pandemic. Programming will focus on community engagement and integration with non-communicable disease health services to build out overall health system capacity, ensure sustained access to COVID-19 vaccines, and fill gaps in routine care.
Seed Global Health
We are partnering with Seed Global Health to aid in the development of the health workforce in Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zambia by providing clinical education and training. The COVID-19 pandemic placed excessive demands on health workers who were called on to serve on the frontline of surveillance, diagnosis and care of COVID-19 patients. These programs will focus on national quality improvement and create a model to scale and retain healthcare workers. Over the next ten years, Seed aims to train 80,000 nurses, physicians, and midwives to offer top-notch care to those who need it most.
Imperial College London
The Moderna Charitable Foundation has partnered with Imperial College London for a research study which aims to support children affected by orphanhood. The study will look at whether detailing child dependents on the death certificates of parents or caregivers could help ensure quicker access to support for children and their families.
The research will be piloted in Sincelejo and other communities in Northern Colombia, in a collaboration between researchers at Imperial College London, the Global Reference Group on Children Affected by COVID-19 and Crisis, the World Bank mission in Colombia, the University of Sucre and the University of the Andes in Colombia.
The Moderna Foundation is a charitable organisation established by Moderna Inc. It is a separate legal entity from Moderna Inc. and operates independently.
